This week’s episode is with Karl C. Pupe who has been a teacher for 12 years in different specialisms of the education system. He is also the author of ‘The Action Hero Teacher’ and is transitioning to becoming an educational consultant. He brings a wealth of knowledge about young people and education. We talk about a range of topics from his experience as a teacher working in special provisions, austerity and its effects on society, gang culture, the education system and more.
One aspect of this conversation that I liked exploring was the experiences of SEN children and how they can be supported within education. I feel like this is an area in which not everyone is aware of their experiences differ in school. I certainly did not know when I was in school about the different needs of children. Also, in alignment with this I think acknowledging how children’s trauma can impact their education is important. As many of us aren’t aware of what happens in a child’s life so it is essential that we respond with empathy and patience to try and understand the motivations behind the behaviour.
Here is the ted talk ken Robinson gave about schools and creativity
How can we begin to improve the education system? Where do the necessary changes need to happen? What needs reforming and what needs to continue? All big questions need addressing if we are to create a generation of people that can impact and change the world.
